  A. New Evidence
2. The Rabe-Bemis Diving Expedition in August 2000

2.3.1 The condition of the wreck

The hull was covered by a layer of white/grey looking sediments being several centimetres thick. The difference between the blue and white painted areas could not be seen anymore from 2-3 m distance. The foreship was found to be turned 20°-25° more to starboard than it was initially resting, i.e. the angle was then approximately 140°.

See the ROV image below which demonstrates

note
The angle of inclination of the wreck (the ROV is kept in horizontal condition by gyros unless heeled by the operator which was not the case during these sequen-ces.

Apparently the foreship did sink deeper into the seabed and/or sand was filled up particularly around the foreship and partly along the starboard side. Whilst initially the starboard fore part of the forecastle with its recess had been completely free of the seabed, the starboard part of the forecastle deck including half of the starboard front bulkhead has now disappeared in the seabed. Apparently the aft ship is still in unchanged condition, as far as it could be determined, thus it can be assumed that the fore ship and aft ship are exposed to different forces. Cracks in the hull were, however, not observed.
