2.3.10 The stern ramps

 

The divers found the starboard stern ramp open by ca. 10-15 cm, whilst the port one was noted to be closed, a situation which existed already at the first official ROV inspection on 02.10.94 – see also Chapter 29.7, pages 941 ff. of our Report. The images below show the open starboard stern ramp – in the port of Stockholm and at the bottom of the sea.

The importance of the partly open and consequently unlocked starboard stern ramp has – so far – not been considered in any of the published sinking scenarios. It might have contributed to the chain of causes which led the ship to sink stern first.
