Due to the sediment cover the difference between the blue and white painted areas could only be seen from a short distance. The image below shows such an area. The blue area to the left is the underside of the fender bar (when the vessel was in upright condition). The white area to the right is the upper side of the fender bar – arrow 1. Arrow 2 points to the normally vertical hull plating behind which the car deck was – the fender bar being on car deck level.
