  A. New Evidence
2. The Rabe-Bemis Diving Expedition in August 2000

2.3.4 The starboard front bulkhead - Page 17

The following two images show again the same area, viz. the left one in October 1994 and the right one in August 2000.

Whilst on the left image the turnbuckle type locking device for the hook of the visor is clearly visible – see arrow 1 – this device is no more visible on the August 2000 image, where instead the ice cylinder can be seen now – see arrow 1. At the lower side of the opening – see arrow 2 – possibly the remains of the fastening of the locking device are visible, which indicates that the locking device was cut off probably because it was disturbing the work as indicated by the condition of the bulkhead part to the right – see arrow 3 – i.e. there was either a wire under load turned round and/or a clamp was used to fit a hydraulic jack or the like.
The initial installation of the locking devices in this area, i.e. in the void space below B-deck, is illustrated and explained on pages 1104/1105 of our Report.
The following image made by ROV in August 2000 shows the lower part of the front bulkhead with the starboard outer hinge of the bow ramp. Arrow 1 points to a crack in the recess bulkhead which had been previously covered by the outer longitudinal beam of the bow ramp which is now bent upwards as explained and demonstrated in chapter 2.3.3. above.
Arrow 2 points to some silvery looking sort of packing which was not visible on the previous footage from the same area and which does not look as if it had been there for 6 years.
